Brunswick Street railway station opened in 1890 with the completion of the railway through Brisbane Central and Brunswick Street.[3]
The upgrade of Brunswick Street railway station started in July 2007, after long delays caused by a disagreement between Queensland Government and Valley Metro, over more space for the station.[4] The $33 million upgrade started in July 2007, but since this station is a busiest station it cannot be completely closed to traffic as such the upgrade had to be done in stages with only two platforms at a time.[5] The upgrade was completed in October 2008 with escalators, elevators, new lighting, updated passenger information displays and upgraded flooring. With the upgrade the station was renamed to Fortitude Valley.[1][2]
